Do you fast on Thanksgiving??
This is for americans...
Of course!
I fast from meat, but I have cheese.
No, I have non-Orthodox family that we celebrate it with.
I celebrate Thanksgiving before the fast starts.
Sometimes...
No, its too hard to resist.

There is an option missing...
\"I keep the fast with exception to Thanksgiving to join in the National Holiday and its traditionds.\"
From what I understand the Greek and Antiochian Archdiocese have relaxed the fasting rules for this holiday to celebrate with the Nation and aviod false humility.

Sorry... I meant to say... \"to avoid the tempataion of false humility.\"
I do not mean to imply that those who fast are falsy humble.
I know of a monk who once forbade his spiritual children in America to fast on Thanksgiving so they are not tempted to \"puff themselves up.\" with pride that they kept the fast while others didn\'t.
But as I always say... \"To each according to the teachings of their spiritual father.\" Well, I never really said that before, but it sounds like something I\'ll say more often.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving either way.

Since most years the fast does not come until after Thanksgiving, there isn\'t an issue being Julian calendar =)

It\'s interesting, that when Thanksgiving was first instituted by President Lincoln, it was meant to be a day of fasting, not feasting, at least that\'s what I heard. It was also on the last Thursday of November. President Franklin Roosevelt changed it to the fourth Thursday to lengthen the holiday shopping season.

Fasting is also a return to Eden where man and animals used to live together in harmony...
there were no pain,no slaghter houses,no blood...
fasting is also an act of compassion to the other creatures ,whο suffer ....
\"he creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.
For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope
thatthe creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time\" Romans 8,17-22

We almost always celebrate Thanksgiving with non-Orthodox family, so we don\'t fast. But I agree with what ostonvasi said. I\'ve heard of some monasteries that will actually force their monks to eat meat during the fast so they don\'t become proud.
